AHC32816 Certificate III in Rural Operations

The AHC32816 Certificate III in Rural Operations is a diverse qualification providing practical training across several fields including agriculture, horticulture and conservation, and land management. The program features training in workplace health and safety (WHS), machinery operation and maintenance, livestock handling, chemicals, fencing, drone operation, tractors and quad bikes.

This is a nationally recognised program designed to help students develop a diverse range of skils and prepare them for the workforce. Students will experience campus life at the university with options and pathways to further studies including the Diploma of Agribusiness Management (AHC51416), also offered by UQ Skills.

Students will undertake a variety of subjects, skilling them for a range of industry areas, including horticulture, livestock production and conservation and land management. This program would suit a participant who wants to work in multi-purpose roles in the agricultural sector in regional Australia.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

The Certificate 3 Guarantee is a key initiative under the Queensland Government's five-year training reform action plan. The primary intent of the Certificate 3 Guarantee is the delivery and completion of certificate level III qualifications which lead to employment or career progression.

Certificate 3 Guarantee program available:

AHC32816 Certificate III in Rural Operations

The Certificate III in Rural Operations is an approved Certificate 3 Guarantee program for eligible applicants.

This program will be delivered through a combination of online and face to face delivery offered at UQ Gatton by UQ Skills' experienced and fully qualified staff. Students will be assessed through a combination of online assessment, practical demonstrations and oral questioning.

The Certificate will be delivered over 24 weeks, with attendance required during practical training sessions over three days every two weeks (for a total of 36 days over the semester). (Alternate sessions may be negotiated as required). 

Year 12 Fee Free Funding

Eligible year 12 graduates can access fee-free training within the calendar year after graduating. To be eligible to access fee-free training, you must:

  • have completed year 12 in Queesland and hold a Senior Statement issued by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority or equivalent certification;
  • enrol and start an apprenticeship, traineeship or training, with an approved training provider in a high priority qualification by the end of the calendar year following the completion of year 12;
  • permanently reside in Queensland.

Students will be assessed through a combination of written assignments, written tests, demonstrations, oral questioning/presentations and e-learning.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is also available to students. RPL takes into account any previous study, work or life experience against the competencies being studied. Please read the list of units for this program above and consider if you wish to apply for RPL. Please note that there are administrative costs involved with this process.

Resources provided as part of the course will include work books, learning materials, and general Personal Protective Equipment.

Students are required to have: appropriate work gear including steel capped boots, wide brim hat, long pants and long sleeved shirt.

This is a Queensland government funded program and the following co-contribution fees exist in 2018:

  • Year 12 graduates - fee free (subject to eligibility)
  • Certificate 3 Guarantee Concessional: $2,537
  • Certificate 3 Guarantee Non-concessional: $2,994
  • Full fee: $6,650
